Two Iowa Rush girls teams, the u15s and u16s, competed in Iowa State Cup this past weekend and both won their games to advance through to the championship games next weekend. Both semi-final games, played on Sunday at Cownie Soccer Complex, turned out to be very suspenseful and exciting.
The u15s played Heartland and took an early 2-0 lead which they were able to hold on to for most of the game until the last 20 minutes when Heartland turned up the heat and pressure and were able to find the back of the net twice to tie the score 2-2. The Rush continued to battle and scored a goal to go up 3-2 with less than 10 minutes left and were able to finish off the rest of the game to win. They will play VSA on Saturday at 10:15am at Cownie.
The 16s played JUSC to a 0-0 tie throughout the entire game until they were able to put a header off a corner into the goal in stoppage time of the second half just before the game would've gone into the overtime periods. With a dramatic finish, they advanced through to the final game where they'll meet Iowa City Alliance on Saturday at 12:00pm at Cownie. This will be a rematch of last year's State Cup championship game.
Good luck in the finals next weekend girls!
