Iowa Rush Soccer Club

U14 Girls Champions

Iowa Rush Soccer Club had seven teams compete at this past weekend's Just for Girls tournament in Des Moines. Despite a soggy start on Saturday morning, the event proved valuable for our teams in terms of competitive level and ability for our staff to evaluate individual and team development thus far into the season.

The U14 Girls Rush were crowned champions on Sunday evening at Cownie Soccer Complex after playing five solid matches in the tournament. Scoring twenty goals over the weekend, allowing only one goal against, and defeating last year's State Cup champions JUSC in the semi-finals, the team walked away feeling satisfied with their performance. Head coach and General Manager Candice Fabry stated, "I was extremely proud of the players' performances over the weekend. This team has been motivated to improve in training and it is showing in matches, which is always a positive reward for players and their hard work. Their consistency in play from match to match, in both their attack and defending tactics, was impressive, and we only hope to improve upon the performance of this weekend as we prepare for upcoming MRL games and tournaments". Congratulations to the U14 Girls Rush on their championship.

Several other Iowa Rush teams made positive strides in their team's development over the weekend. Outlined below are each team's final tournament record and areas of improvement noticed by the technical staff.

(Team Name - Record in wins-losses-ties, and below is the area of improvement noticed by staff)

U11 Girls Nero 1-1-1

The team showed an ability to be dangerous in the attack against all opponents, as the team put a goal in the back of the net in each game over the weekend.

U12 Girls Nero 2-1-0

Scored 11 goals in three games and improved their ability to start a game well, often scoring first over the course of their three games this weekend.

U13 Girls Rush 1-2-0

As the only team to draw with the eventual tournament champions, the team improved their defensive stability and showcased improved possession in their build-up to goal.

U13 Girls Nero 2-0-1

The only team to beat the eventual tournament champions, their overall team shape improved as their comfort level is increasing with the jump from 8v8 to 11v11 full-sided games.

U15 Girls Nero 2-1-0

In a tough age group and division, the team brought a strong work ethic and resiliency; scoring five goals and finishing second in their group.

U18 Girls Nero 0-2-1

Despite two hard losses on Saturday, the team re-focused and brought forth a strong performance on Sunday by drawing their last match 1-1.

Congratulations to all of our Iowa Rush teams this past weekend and we look forward to their continuing development in the second half of the season.
