Iowa Rush takes home 1st and 2nd at WDM Premier Games
Iowa Rush Select teams competed in the West Des Moines Premier Games over this past weekend, April 5-6th, and showed great promise for theupcoming season. Executive Director, Paul Fabry, commented that "in the limited time we have been able to be outside and train in preparation for this event, our staff thought all of our players showed great heart, quality decision making, and technical improvement since last fall".
Three Iowa Rush teams advanced our of their bracket play and into the single-elimination rounds; the U-12 Girls Rush Black, the U-13 Boys Rush, and the U-14 Girls Rush. The U-12 Girls Rush Black team faced JUSC in the semi-finals and advanced on penalty kicks. The final game pinned the team against Cedar Valley SC, and after back and forth scoring, the U12-Girls took the momentum and scored consecutive goals to secure the 1st place finish at 4-2.
The U13 Boys Rush advanced directly into the finals after playing quality soccer both defensively and in the attack in the round robin games. Only giving up one goal in their first three games, the boys pulled together to battle Prior Lake Soccer Predators in the final game. After a hard fought game, the boys fell to the Predators by a score of 1-2 and finished in 2nd place.
The U-14 Girls Rush met Omaha FC in the semi-finals after a strong display of work ethic and skill in round robin play. Regulation time ended with a 1-1 draw, and the game was ultimately decided by penalty kicks, which Iowa Rush came out on top at the end of the five kicks. The U-14 Girls
would then face Elite Girls Academy, a team they beat by a score of 3-2 in round robin play. A fiercely fought game from both sides again ended in a 1-1 draw, and penalty kicks were taken to decide the ultimate winner. Rush players displayed great character during the kicks from the mark, and in the end, fell to EGA to finish in 2nd place.
Congratulations again to all the Iowa Rush teams on a well played tournament!
